Who is this qualification for?

The objective of this qualification is to support a role in the workplace. It is designed for learners who currently hold a licence from the Security Industry Authority (SIA) to work as a security officer and need to be brought up to date with the new licence-linked qualifications requirements.

Entry Requirements

To register for this qualification, learners must be aged 18 and over.
Learners will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate* that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It is an SIA requirement that training centres must confirm that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid. This must happen BEFORE the learner attends this course.

How long will it take?

To complete this qualification learners are expected to undertake approximately 6 hours of learning. The SIA stipulates a minimum of 1 hour and 50 minutes contact time (0.5-days) if self-study is undertaken.

Topics Covered

These include the principles of terror threat awareness and minimising personal risk for security officers. *Act (Action Counters Terrorism) E-Learning.

Assessment Method

This qualification is assessed by multiple-choice examinations.

Unit 1

Principles of Terror Threat Awareness in the Private Security Industry:

  • A 10 question, 20-minute examination paper with a pass mark of at least 70%.
Unit 2

Principles of Minimising Personal Risk for Security Officers in the Private Security Industry:

  • A 16 question, 25-minute examination paper with a pass mark of at least 70%.

ID Requirements

Centres are required to ensure that each learner’s photograph and formal identification documents are checked and recorded before they are allowed to sit the examination/assessment. Only a formal passport-style photo is acceptable and the documents required are listed separately when you click on to ID REQUIREMENTS. Please note ONLY these documents are acceptable and the original MUST be produced, copies cannot be accepted. If you are not sure how you can comply with this, please contact us to discuss this.
